Types of Septic Systems
Pressurized Chamber System Treatment Field
- In-ground System
- Low Cost Option
- Low Maintenance
- Pressurized systems doses the whole field equally, providing a longer life expectancy
- Pressure distribution decreases the size of a standard field
- Typically requires more than 1 acre of land. Sizing is determined by multiple factors and tailored to your household needs
Mound
- Works similar as an in-ground pressurized chamber system, but the difference is this system is above ground
- Graded and seeded so you can easily mow
- Typically needed when soil conditions cannot be met for a standard field. Such as when the soils are too tight or the water table is too close to surface. This is determined by a site evaluation.
- More costly due to amount of soil that needs to be brought in to cover the mound
Packaged Sewage Treatment Plants
- Most costly as it is a complex, all in one system
- Most maintenance including yearly contract maintenance
- Suited for land with lots of bush/trees that you would like to keep
- Chosen when conditions for other fields/mounds cannot be met
At-Grade Systems
- Located in a forested area and is covered by wood chips
- Requires a treatment plant
- Time controlled dosing is required
- May require an additional dosage tank after the treatment plant
Holding Tank
- Ideal for smaller pieces of land
- Affordable and simple option
- Used when the soil or site evaluation does not meet requirements for other types of septic systems
- Regular vac truck service is required to haul away waste
- Typical size is 1500 to 3000 gallons
Open Discharge
- Most Affordable, but also requires the most amount of land
- 600 Feet X 600 Feet of land necessary. (A perfect 10 acres)
- Pumps out onto ground Surface
- Proper soil conditions and land layout must be met as per site evaluation
